• Eritrea is located in the Horn of Africa region of East Africa, bordered by Ethiopia to the south, Sudan to the west, and Djibouti to the southeast.
• The country has an extensive coastline along the Red Sea along its northeastern and eastern parts.
• Eritrea includes the Dahlak Archipelago and several of the Hanish Islands.
• Since independence, Eritrea has constructed 187 large dams, each with a capacity of over 50,000 m³, with the largest dams holding up to 350 million m³ of water.
• In addition to the 187 large dams, Eritrea has built 600 micro-dams to combat drought and support agriculture, fishing, and energy purposes.
